State’s pilot program will benefit customers and contractors
TRAVERSE CITY – A new pilot program – the first of its kind in Michigan - designed to help Cherryland Electric Cooperative members save money on utility bills, will be rolled out Feb. 4.
Cherryland, Brown Lumber and Members Credit Union have teamed up with Michigan Saves to help home owners work with local contractors and use a financing program that taps into the latest savings in energy efficiency.
“This program is a win-win,” said Marc McKellar of Members Credit Union. “People can save money on their utility bills and improve the comfort of their homes. We hope they take advantage of this great opportunity.”
Besides helping Cherryland Electric Cooperative members, it also is a kick start for area contractors, who will work with Brown Lumber to implement the program.
“The contractors we work with will play a key role in Michigan Saves,” said Trevor Williams of Brown Lumber. “Our three organizations will help link the consumer and our contractors. Over the long haul, that’s who will benefit the most from this program.”
To get started in the program, go to the website: www.michigansaves.org/cherrylandpilot.
“This program combines help for our members along with economic development for the Grand Traverse area,” said Tony Anderson of Cherryland Electric Cooperative. “Since it’s the first program of its kind in the state, we’re hopeful people will take advantage of it right away.”
Michigan Saves is an innovative program funded by the Michigan Public Service Commission to finance energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades for all types of Michigan energy consumers.
